I couldn’t pick just one photo for today’s photo of the day. Sometimes in rock ‘n’ roll, it’s the whole story or the energy that makes a show great and memorable, not just one moment. In this case, the star-studded roster of musicians as well as the overall ‘Dolls performance both deserve highlighting. This selection of images shows some of the talent, energy, collaboration, and life-long dedication musicians put in to every show no matter the size of the audience or the venue.
On a more personal note, I am not impressed by or in awe of rock stars–which is not to say I don’t love their music. This is the job they do, just like I have a job to do when I’m there to photograph as a professional. The only hands I am there to shake are those of publicists, managers, and people with whom I can collaborate to make a living at this crazy photo thing I do. However, in this case, I worked up enough courage to bring a special item with me in hopes of having Mr. Johansen sign it. In a way, I’m glad he stayed on his tour bus directly following the show, because I’m not sure I would have had the humility and assertiveness to ask for a signature. Silly, I know. But I prefer to keep a respectable distance between me and my famous subjects.
