Breakfast of photographer champions

photo of berries, kiwi, egg, and toast breakfast

After an extremely hectic autumn and winter, it is time to get back on track with my slightly healthier eating habits. This includes more fresh produce, homemade foods (the smell of fresh bread baking is divine), and taking a few moments to appreciate (and photograph!) the meals I create rather than just wolfing down whatever is easiest to make. Today’s breakfast is a good start…

I’m still getting the hang of making videos and slide shows. But since a few people thought the previous portfolio book link I posted was meant to encourage people to buy my sample book… Here’s a snazzy new video slide show, minus any price info and enhanced by the fabulous sounds of Dolly Parton!!! Enjoy.

organic, triple chocolate heaven from Bleeding Heart Bakery

Ladies and gentlemen, here is a tiny piece of heaven in single serving size! This delightful triple chocolate cupcake was procured from Chicago’s Bleeding Heart Bakery, which features all organic baked goods in a wide variety of flavors. On my last birthday, I skipped over there for the two-for-one special on weekend-old cupcakes. I got half a dozen for practically a steal. Of course I photographed them all first. Then I took one bite out of each one, just to sample all six flavors. Hey, it was my birthday…

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes rockstar baby!

One of the most rewarding parts of my job is seeing love blossom and families grow, and being invited to document it all for them. Photographing the special moments for such wonderful people is a humbling (and fun) honor for me. In this case, I had the privelege of photographing this fun-loving couple’s wedding, and now the new life and family they’ve created. I am so excited for this sweet couple and look forward to meeting the tiny rockstar soon…

We’re a happy family

©2010 Outer Focus Photos

Last weekend I invited a group of extended family to a casual, somewhat experimental photo shoot. This was my first attempt at shooting a large group with an informal approach in a studio set up. Thank goodness my family is so mellow and funny; they’re good sports about letting my try my photo ideas on them. It’s a free photo session, so I guess there’s nothing to lose. And any time family can make a few hours to get together over food, that’s a wonderful thing.

I definitely learned a few things as a result of this shoot. I have a few notes for future shoots about better organizing and directing people during the shoots and some adjustments I need to make to using studio lights. And one of these days I will remember to repeatedly clean the dust off my lens to avoid hours of touch-ups later. (This is true for all my photo shoots.)

This may not work for all families, but since mine is such a bunch of laid back jokesters, I think some of the outtakes and unexpected photos are some of the best ones. I look forward to future shoots with my family to document our growing and ever-changing relationships. It’s also a photo service I’d like to offer to other families as a unique portraits experience.

Foxy lady, great gams!

©2010 Outer Focus Photos

I think I have a knack for making all sorts of people feel at ease in front of the camera. For this reason, and many others, I was excited and flattered when this beauty chose me to work with her on her first ever pin-up photo shoot. I love that she wanted to do a flirty, fun photo shoot as a way to celebrate her feminine beauty and recent weight loss.

I’ve known her for a few years, and can assure you her beauty shines from within. I am so lucky I had the opportunity to capture and share her outer beauty with the world as well. Photography is such a wonderful way to express the charm, inspiration, wisdom, grace, and love I see in people.

…And what a great set of gams! (You can get those killer shoes at Broken Cherry.)

Here is another photo from a recent shoot I did with a friend and her beautiful baby girl. Even though mama didn’t come expecting to have her picture taken, I managed to capture a flattering, sweet moment I think she’ll like.

My former roller derby teammate stopped by my new home studio with her darling daughter and one fancy tutu. Is there anything more adorable than happy, chubby babies? Looking at this picture, I’d have to say, “Nope!”. I’m starting to get the hang of photographing newborns and infants, but I think I need a few more props to make it easier on the bebés.
